If you’ve ever seen a construction site packed tightly between two skyscrapers, you’ve likely spotted a luffing tower crane. Unlike its cousins with long, horizontal arms, this crane has a jib that points dramatically upward at an angle—like a giant steel finger pointing at the sky.
Why “Luffing”?
“Luffing” simply means moving the jib up and down. On a luffing crane, the arm isn’t fixed horizontally; it can be raised or lowered like a drawbridge. How It Works
